The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot, or RNIP, is a community-driven experiment that attempts to extend the benefits of economic immigration to Canada’s smaller towns.
Furthermore, the RNIP offers qualified international workers—who desire to work and live in 11 member communities—a path to permanent residency in Canada. Eleven municipalities from five Canadian provinces are involved in the RNIP: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.
Eligibility criteria
- The candidate must have at least one year of continuous job experience, either full-time or part-time, totalling at least 1,560 hours in the previous three years. Or the candidate should have completed a publicly funded postsecondary education in the relevant community.
- Language requirements:
- CLB/NCLC 6 for NOC 0 and A jobs
- NCLC/CLB 5 for NOC B jobs
- CLB/NCLC 4 for NOC C or D positions
- Education: The candidate should have an educational degree or diploma that is comparable to a Canadian secondary school diploma or the equivalent of an educational credential assessment (ECA) completed outside of Canada.
- You must have sufficient funds to maintain your family as Settlement Funds or be currently employed in one of the communities.
- You should have a job offer from one of the 11 municipalities that are participating.
- If you are granted permanent residency in Canada, you must have a genuine desire to dwell in the community.
- Last, you must meet the requirements of the community that you want to be part of.
Recommendation from a specific community: One of the pilot communities must refer you. The pilot communities recommend someone based on several characteristics.
- The candidates must have the intention to live in the surrounding area
- The availability of employment within the community and the economic needs of the community
- The professional background and skill set of the candidates
- The candidate’s connections to the neighbourhood
- More information will be available when districts are ready to start recruiting and endorsing candidates.
Work experience
- The position must be full-time. This implies that you work at least 30 paid hours each week.
- It should also be non-seasonal, implying that you have continuous and regularly planned paid employment throughout the year.
- Furthermore, your position should be perpetual, with no specified expiry date.
- The compensation must reach or exceed the Job Bank’s minimum wage for the National Occupational Classification (NOC) of your job offer.
- Your experience must demonstrate that you can perform the requirements of the position being offered.
Job offer
You must also have a confirmed employment offer from one of the participating areas. In addition, this job offer must meet the following standards.
- The job must be full-time, which means it must demand at least 30 paid hours per week.
- The job must be non-seasonal, which means you must have constant and regular paid employment.
- Your position is permanent and has no specific expiry date.
- The wage must be equal to or greater than the Job Bank’s minimum wage for your NOC.
- Your experience must demonstrate that you can perform the requirements of the position being offered.
