Northwest Territories Nominee Program
Program Overview:
Foreign nationals who have a job offer from an employer in the Northwest Territories (NWT) can apply to immigrate through the Northwest Territories Nominee Program Employer-Driven stream. The Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) provides eligible Foreign Nationals a pathway to becoming permanent residents in Canada.
Key Highlights About the Program
- The Northwest Territories Nominee Program Employer-Driven stream allows employers to hire skilled workers and help skilled workers gain Canadian Permanent Residency.
- The employer who wants to hire and nominate foreign nationals must prove that no Canadians or Canadian Permanent Residents are available for the job.
- There are three program categories under the employer-driven stream.
- Entry Level/Semi-Skilled Occupations
- Skilled Worker
- NWT Express Entry: Express Entry helps candidates to fast-track applications for permanent residency. If nominated, the candidate will receive 600 points within the Express Entry pool.
- Foreign nationals who are outside Canada are typically not eligible for nomination except under exceptional circumstances.
Program Eligibility Requirements
- Applicant must have worked full-time in the same position with the employer for six months (applicable to Entry Level/Semi-Skilled )
- The applicant must have one year of full-time experience in the relevant occupation in skill type NOC 0, A and B (applicable to the skilled worker)
- Applicant must have the intention to settle in NWT
- The applicant must have relevant education and training.
- The applicant must meet the language requirements.
- The applicant must have Settlement Income, $10000 for an individual and $2000 for each additional dependents.
- The applicant must have a job offer that is Labour Market Impact Assessment supported.
- Meet the admissibility requirements. A medical test and criminal check will be conducted.

Step by Step Process
Find an employer
To apply under the employer-driven stream, an applicant first needs an LMIA job offer from an NWT employer.
Applicant and employer must determine they meet all program criteria
Applicant and employer must determine they meet all program criteria and gather all relevant information and documents. Applicants applying under the express entry category must have created an express entry profile.
Submit Applications
Applications must be completed and submitted electronically through the employer’s NTNP online application portal.
Apply for Permanent Residence if Successful
If the nomination is successful, an applicant can then apply for permanent residence with the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

Alberta Provincial Nominee 1st to 4th Quarter of 2020 (Jan-Nov)
HOW TO APPLY
- Candidates must first create an Express Entry Profile under the Federal express entry program and indicate their intention to live in Alberta.
- Suppose the candidate receives a Notification of Interest (NOI) letter from AINP in their Express Entry profile. In that case, the applicant must respond within two weeks of receiving the Notification of Interest and provide the Express Entry profile number.
- Applicants must contact AINP to indicate their interest in applying for the program after receiving the NOI letter. And must receive a request from the AINP to apply to this stream.
- Candidates must determine they meet the assessment criteria before completing and submitting an application. To complete the application, the applicant needs to create an online account on the AINP portal. Fill out the application completely and accurately. Upload all supporting documents using the Alberta Express Entry Stream – Document Checklist.
- Apply to the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program Express Entry streams online and pay the application fee of $500.
- If the candidate’s application under the AINP express entry stream is approved, the candidate will receive a nomination certificate through the federal Express Entry portal. The candidate must accept the nomination within 30 days after it is issued through the federal Express Entry portal to receive an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence from IRCC. An application for permanent residence must be submitted within 60 days.
