Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program
Program Description:
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) is the province’s economic immigration program. The OINP allows skilled foreign workers, international students and others with the right skills, experience and education to apply to the OINP for a nomination. Ontario’s Express Entry is a stream under the OINP. To qualify under Ontario’s Express Entry streams, the applicant must have received a notification of interest from Ontario.

- The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) is in partnership with the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The OINP nominates foreign nationals who have the skills and experience the Ontario economy needs for permanent residence; however, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) makes the final decision to approve applicants for permanent residence.
- The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program issued about 8,050 nominations to successful applicants across all streams in 2020. According to Statista, Ontario is the province with the most immigrants, with about 139,071 immigrants arriving between July 1, 2019, and June 30, 2020.
Program Eligibility Requirements
- The applicant must have the intention to live in Ontario.
- The applicant must have an up-to-date Express Entry profile.
- The applicant must have received a notification of interest from Ontario.
- The applicant must have proof of current work experience.
- The applicant must have language tests result.
- Applicants must have education educational credentials.
- The applicant must have settlement funds.
- Medically admissible to Canada.
- Applicants must not have a criminal record or be a security risk to Canada.

Step by Step Process
Create an Express Entry Profile:
Determine you meet the eligibility and create an Express Entry profile with IRCC. Indicate your intention to live in Ontario.
Receive Notification of Interest:
If your skills and experience meet the Ontario economy needs, you will receive a notification of Ontario’s interest.
Submit an Application:
Submit your application for the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program Express Entry streams and pay your application fee of $1500.
Nomination & Application for permanence resident:
Receive a provincial nomination and apply it to IRCC for permanent residence.
HOW TO APPLY
- Create an Express Entry Profile: Create a profile in Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s Express Entry system and indicate your intention to live in Ontario.
- If you receive a notification of interest from Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), you will submit your application through the OINP e-Filing Portal.
- Applicants must contact AINP to indicate their interest in applying for the program after receiving the NOI letter. And must receive a request from the AINP to apply to this stream.
- Candidates must determine they meet the assessment criteria before completing and submitting an application. To complete the application, the applicant needs to create an online account on the AINP portal. Fill out the application completely and accurately. Upload all supporting documents using the Alberta Express Entry Stream – Document Checklist.
- Apply to the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program Express Entry streams online and pay the application fee of $500.
- If the candidate’s application under the AINP express entry stream is approved, the candidate will receive a nomination certificate through the federal Express Entry portal. The candidate must accept the nomination within 30 days after it is issued through the federal Express Entry portal to receive an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence from IRCC. An application for permanent residence must be submitted within 60 days.

- The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) reached its 2020 nomination allocation. The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program issued a total of 8,050 nominations to successful applicants across all streams in 2020, including 400 additional nominations received through an in-year reallocation and 50 additional NOC skill level C nominations.
- New applications, and applications already submitted to the OINP, will continue to be accepted and considered under the program’s 2021 nomination allocation. Learn more about OINP updates.
