High demand occupations in Quebec due to pandemic

Due to pandemic, there has been a rise in certain occupations in the Quebec province. Based on the study conducted by the Canadian government, 15 jobs are seen in high demand.

Though some of the jobs saw negative impacts due to which many lost their jobs while others witnessed a boost. These 15 in demand occupations are listed below with their National Occupational Classification (NOC) code:

#1 Information systems analysts and consultants (NOC 2171)

Amidst the pandemic, most of the businesses started work from home practice which increased the need of information systems analysts and consultants. These professionals can easily operate remotely. There was an increase of around 30.9 percent in the employment ratio of this occupation between 2019 and 2020.

#2 Human resources professionals (NOC 1121)

These professionals have managed a lot of responsibilities amidst pandemic such as managing the things of their company to work remotely, re-opening of businesses, ensuring proper health and safety protocols are implemented at the workplace. This increased the demand of these professionals and witnessed a rise of around 25.5 percent between 2019 and 2020.

#3 Supervisors, supply chain, tracking and scheduling co-ordination occupations (NOC 1215)

They work in retail, wholesale, manufacturing, warehousing and transportation businesses. It saw a rise of 48.7 percent between 2019 and 2020.

#4 Delivery and courier service drivers (NOC 7514)

They are mostly employed in food services, retail stores, and messenger services etc. These businesses increased the need of e-commerce as they started delivering out their services. In this occupation, there was an increase of 62.4 percent between 2019 and 2020.

#5 Store shelf stockers, clerks and order fillers (NOC 6622)

These professionals get employed in food, beverage, and retail, personal and health care stores. This profession witnessed a rise of 19.6 percent between 2019 and 2020.

#6 Computer programmers and interactive media developers (NOC 2174)

Because of many businesses turning digital, the demand of this occupation increased. Moreover, these professionals are adept in working remotely and there was a rise of 17.4 percent in such jobs between 2019 and 2020.

#7 Secondary school teachers (NOC 4031)

Most of the schools shifted towards online learning due to the increasing threats of the pandemic from spring 2020. It thereby increased the demand of teaching and other staff and overall there was a rise of 27.2 percent between 2019 and 2020 in this occupation.

#8 Post-secondary teaching and research assistants (NOC 4012)

Online, hybrid and long-distance learning became a common thing during the pandemic. Therefore, there was an increase in the jobs of post-secondary teaching and research assistants and it witnessed a rise of 37.9 percent between 2019 and 2020.

#9 User support technicians (NOC 2282)

They are mostly employed in finance, computer design services, insurance and public administrative services. This occupation increased in demand by 52.9 percent between 2019 and 2020.

#10 Financial auditors and accountants (NOC 1111)

The demand of this occupation increased as these professionals are adept in carrying out tasks such as debt restructuring, valuation of assets and modification of leases and implementing other government related norms in businesses. Their demand increased by 18.4 percent between 2019 and 2020.  

#11 Financial managers (NOC 0111)

These professionals are also equally involved in evaluation of the financial impact of the pandemic across diverse sectors just like accountants and auditors. There was a rise of 37.2 percent in this occupation between 2019 and 2020.

#12 Contractors and supervisors, mechanic trades (NOC 7301)

These professionals are involved in tasks such as construction and manufacturing, repair and maintenance etc. There was an increase of 47.9 percent in the demand of this occupation between 2019 and 2020.

#13 Medical administrative assistants (NOC 1243)

During the pandemic, there was an extreme demand of these professionals across the entire health care sector. Their employment ratio increased by 19.7 percent between 2019 and 2020.  

#14 Accounting and related clerks (NOC 1431)

These professionals work majorly in all sectors and their demand increased by 18.7 percent between 2019 and 2020.        

#15 Pharmacists (NOC 3131)

They work in hospital pharmacies and personal care stores. There was a rise in demand of this profession by 59.5 percent between 2019 and 2020.
