Food service workers immigration applications are now invited by Nova Scotia province through its Occupation in Demand PNP stream. Like many other industries, restaurant industry has been adversely impacted by the pandemic and as a result there have been labour shortages. To fill in the labour market gaps, Nova Scotia province has included three new eligible occupations in the Occupations in Demand immigration stream.
These occupations with their National Occupation Classification (NOC) codes are listed below:
- NOC 6513 (Food and beverage servers)
- NOC 6711 (Food counter attendants, kitchen helpers and related support occupations)
- NOC 6731 (Light duty cleaners)
Workers in these occupations listed under this stream can be hired by the employers without the need of Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). Also, there is no such requirement for the employee to work for at least six months before applying to Provincial Nominee Program. This gesture of the Nova Scotia province will enable in fulfilling the labour market requirements.
Occupations under the NOC skill levels C and D are mostly targeted in the Occupation in demand stream. Earlier, they were known as unskilled or low-skilled but after the whole COVID-19 situation, they are referred to as essential occupations.
To be eligible to apply in Nova Scotia’s Provincial Nominee Program, candidates need to have an occupation listed under the Occupations in Demand stream. A minimum work experience of one year is also required between the ages of 21 to 55 years old. The candidates also need to have a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 4 in English or French language. Candidates applying for provincial nomination must have enough funds to support their settling process in the Nova Scotia province.
