Seeing the current pandemic situation, an advisory has been released by the Air Canada on their vacations website. It was updated on January 5, 2022 and it stated “In light of the current pandemic context, Air Canada will be suspending some flights to Sun destinations from January 24 until April 30, 2022.” Around 14 countries have been included in this suspension list namely;
- Bermuda
- Antigua
- Grenada
- Aruba
- Samana, Dominican Republic
- Havana, Cuba
- Curacao
- Exuma, The Bahamas
- Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
- Saint Kitts and Nevis
- Saint Martin/Saint Maarten
- Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic
- Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
- Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands
However, many one-way commercial flights will be operated by Air Canada from these affected countries. The reason behind operating these one-way flights is to make sure that no Canadian citizen is stranded at these suspended destinations. Moreover, full refund will be provided to the travelers who would be affected by the suspension of the flights.
Air Canada direct flights to/from Hong Kong
In an another news release on January 4, Air Canada updated all its sponsors that no direct flight will run between Canada and Hong Kong starting January 7, 2022. As of now, it is expected that flights can be resumed on March 1, 2022 from the Vancouver International Airport and on March 3, 2022 from Toronto Pearson International Airport.
Air Canada planned to cancel the direct flights to/from Hong Kong in response to the two-week ban imposed by Hong Kong on flights from Canada and seven other countries. The cancellation of flights has been announced due to the constant rise in the COVID and Omicron cases. Apart from Canada, these seven other countries include:
- India
- Australia
- United States
- France
- Great Britain
- Pakistan
