For the year 2022, Canadian government plans to implement more efficient immigration policies in order to accomplish higher immigration targets.

Changes expected in the immigration programs and draws for the year 2022:

Canadian immigration levels

According to the 2021-2023 Immigration Levels Plan, the country plans to welcome 411,000 new permanent residents in the year 2022. It is a record-breaking number in itself as far as the Canadian immigration is concerned. It is also expected that this number could further be increased depending on the labour market needs.

Express Entry Draws

Most of the draws conducted in the year 2021 targeted the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) applicants. Amidst the peak of the COVID -19 pandemic, most of the IRCC staff was on leave which caused a lot of delay in the applications processing, resulting into a major backlog.

Year 2021 was a disappointing one especially for the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) candidates. Not a single draw targeted these FSW candidates which caused a lot of frustration among them.

However, IRCC is focusing on the more efficient immigration pathways and has welcomed a great number of new permanent residents in the last quarter ever seen in the country’s immigration history. In 2022, we could see draws focusing on all the immigration programs.

New NOC structure

Till now, National Occupational Classification 2016 version was applicable but in 2022 new National Occupational Classification (NOC) will be applicable. NOC 2016 version was divided into four skill levels; A, B, C and D. On the other hand, the new version focuses on six main TEER categories namely; Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities. This new version will be seen in action from the second half of 2022.

CRS score in 2022

With all the travel and other restrictions in place, IRCC dropped the CRS score to as low as 75 for meeting the immigration targets in 2021. For the year 2022, it is expected that CRS cut-off for all the Express Entry draws could drop more.

COVID -19 vaccinations

For all those planning to travel to Canada after January 15, 2022; need to be fully vaccinated as per the Canada’s policies. Travellers need to be fully vaccinated with the approved vaccines, 14 days prior to their travelling.

Municipal Nominee Program

Since 2019, the Canadian government has been planning to implement a Municipal Nominee Program (MNP). This program is expected to start in this year 2022. Similar to the Provincial Nominee Program, MNP will extend its benefits and increase the immigration in the Canada’s less populous areas.
